Hey you!

Thank you for joining us in EDGE Boot camp as the hacker kids! It’s an important role in a camp, since you will not just learn as one of the students in the camp, you are the facilitator! The person that support the learners and make this camp possible!

Now, here are some notes for you to start your journey! It’s going to be somewhat challenging. BUT! WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!

What is EDGE Bootcamp

EDGE is a bootcamp aiming to support the young minds to learn how to turn their adversity into advantages. It’s a camp inspired by the book EDGE by professor Laura Huang at Harvard Business School.

We are inviting 32 kids from shelters from 6 countries and 8 hackers kids to join us and co-create a learning environment that help identify your true potential! Forget all about what you learn in the traditional education systems! We embrace open-ended thinking, we embrace new solutions, and we embrace vulnerability. Only by recognizing your adversity will you learn to become the best of you.

Who are the hacker kids?

The hacker kids are a group of children with hacking, finance, or project management background. At EDGE bootcamp, we are onto a really tough mission that requires compassion, empathy, and the ability to embrace difference.

Most of the participants of the camp will be children from various of shelters. They may be the victim of domestic violence, refugees, or child labor. They are born in a less fortunate environment, hence not capable of entering the traditional education system.

However, we believe that with warm companionship and great guidance, these kids will still be able to work their their way around to find their advantages. Own their narratives, learn the skills, and eventually contribute back to the community they are from.

What should an hacker kid do in the camp?

So, as a hacker kid. We expect that we have experiences on hacking through a project, building something with basic financial/ technology literacy.

Your job as a hacker kid is to learn with the children from shelters. Learn their story, learn their background, facilitate them during the camp with great understanding that we are all different, yet we are all the same.

A hacker kid will serve as the group lead of the bootcamp. You will receive a one-day pre-event training to get some levels of understanding of the bootcamp. After the training, we will have a general idea on the camp, and we will equip you with some basic communication skills: how to communicate, how to guide, and how to facilitate. This is for sure a great chance to practice your leadership skills!

During the camp, you are basically one of the participants of the camp. But with the communication skills you learned from the training, you will be able to work with your teammates, facilitate them through the lessons.

You will:
